Microsoft made Windows 1803 available to the public last week and all I have heard from friends, colleagues, IT admins, and thousands of users on Reddit, is that this update, in its current form, is riddled with problems. A couple notable problems getting headlines are Alienware devices locking up and Google Chrome freezing after the update. Some of the other issues that users are reporting include File Explorer crashing, BSOD during the update, Microsoft and third-party apps become unstable, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection troubles, and hardware not working – just to name a few....

Sending files via email is so last decade, and with all of the spam and malware delivered by email a lot of times, it will accidentally get deleted anyway....

Accidents happen. The delete key is easy to hit. And unlike Internet Explorer, deleted Chrome bookmarks don’t go to the recycle bin –- they get permanently erased on the spot. The only chance of recovery is a backup, so the automated backup is your best bet unless you regularly export/backup your bookmarks. The only side effect is that any new bookmarks you’ve created since launching Chrome will also be lost unless you back them up right away....

While doing the TechGroove Podcast the other night, our host Josh brought up this groovy tip! Reset Home Screen on iOS On your iDevice running iOS 4.3 or higher, go to Settings > General scroll down to the bottom and tap Reset. On the next screen tap Reset Home Screen Layout. Verify you want to do it and tap Reset Home Screen. It just takes a moment, and your Home Screen will be reset to the factory default layout....

Parallels 7 makes a good first impression with its updated startup wizard. It features many easily selectable options against a dark gray textured background similar to that in OS X Lion or iOS. This wizard does a nice job of cutting out a lot of the steps you’d normally have to take to install an operating system. There’s no fishing around on the internet for ISO images, or having to burn anything to DVD first–it all can be initiated right from within the Parallels application....

The Roku Ultra promises 50% more wireless range but will still include an Ethernet port for those who want to hardwire their device. It also includes long overdue Bluetooth support. That means you will be able to pair your smartphone with the device in order to stream music and other audio through the TV. It also has been updated to include Dolby Vision support also with Dolby Atmos sound. The revamped player will also include support for the AV1 codec which more and more video platforms are starting to adopt....

Roku owners, for years, have had to deal with the lack of an official YouTube channel since it launched in 2008. There’s been several third-party attempts, but most were shut down within a few months. One of the more successful ones we covered is VideoBuzz, and you can still stream YouTube to your Roku from an iOS or Android device using Twonky. Disable Startup Programs After having your computer for a few years, you’ve probably installed a lot of different apps and desktop programs. A simple solution exists, in the form of GIF YouTube. This service allows you to create GIFs up to 10 seconds long, with good results. Here’s how it works. GIF YouTube With the video open in a browser tab, type: gif after www. and before youtube in the address bar and hit Enter as shown below. You’ll be taken to the GIF YouTube website where you’ll get a few options for your future GIF....

Another cool thing you can do is play a song you don’t know the name of, but only the lyrics. For example, you can say “Alexa, play the song that goes: and you give yourself away” and Alexa will play With or Without You from U2. Owners of an Echo device have already had this option, and results will vary based on the song you’re looking for. Still, it’s nice to see consistency with Alexa among all platforms and device form factors....

The first thing you need to do is get the exact URL address of your online image. To do this you can usually Right-Click an image from your browser and get an option for this from the context menu. In Firefox it is called “Copy Image Location,” in Chrome it is “Copy Image URL.” You get the idea… To double-check you have the right URL, you can paste it into your address bar....

For me, there was good news. I can go out and buy a TV in the $500 range today and it’ll be a vast upgrade to the TV that I bought years ago.
