After I reported that Fujitsu has a Windows 8 tablet in the works for this year’s fourth quarter, company sources have said other important tablet manufacturers are planning Windows 8 devices even sooner. I’m talking about Asus, Acer and Toshiba. According to Bloomberg, “people with knowledge of the matter” are saying all three companies will show off their brand new Windows 8 devices at Computex, in Taiwan. The Taiwanese tech show takes place next week in Taipei. According to the same sources, Acer will show a tablet, Toshiba – a tablet and a “notebook-type device”, while Asus is expected to present tablets similar to the Transformer model – one will use an ARM-based NVidia Tegra chip, while the other one will be Intel-based. Asus is no stranger to Windows tablets – the Asus Eee Slate EP121 runs Windows 7 on an Intel core i5 CPU, but I think Windows 8, an OS with a more tablet-aimed interface, will change things completely.
